     Daily Devotional

    October 27

In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus submitted fully to the Father’s will and drank the cup of suffering for our salvation!

In the quiet darkness of Gethsemane, the full weight of the world’s sin pressed upon Jesus.

With the cross only hours away, He withdrew from His disciples and fell face downward on the ground.

The Living Bible records His prayer in Matthew 26:39: “My Father! If it is possible, let this cup be taken away from me. But I want your will, not mine.” He repeated this three times, each time rising to find the disciples sleeping, then returning to the same place of surrender.

The cup was no ordinary vessel. In the prophets it pictured God’s wrath poured out on sin (Isaiah 51:17; Jeremiah 25:15). For Jesus it meant not only the physical agony of scourging and crucifixion but the spiritual separation He would endure as He bore our sins.

 Fully God and fully man, He felt the dread of that cup in His human nature, yet His divine nature never wavered from perfect obedience.

An angel appeared and strengthened Him (Luke 22:43, TLB), and in the intensity of the struggle His sweat became like great drops of blood falling to the ground (Luke 22:44, TLB).

Still He prayed, “If this cup cannot be taken away unless I drink it, your will be done” (Matthew 26:42, TLB).

This moment reveals the heart of the gospel.

The cross was not an accident or a last-minute rescue plan; it was the Father’s predetermined will for the redemption of sinners (Acts 2:23). Jesus willingly drank the cup so that those who trust Him would never have to drink it themselves.

As 2 Corinthians 5:21 declares, “God took the sinless Christ and poured into him our sins. Then, in exchange, he poured God’s goodness into us.” The empty tomb confirms that the cup was fully drained and the debt completely paid!

Gethsemane also gives every believer a living pattern:

In our own gardens of trial—sickness, loss, uncertainty, or open opposition—we are invited to the same posture: “Not my will, but Yours be done.”

Prayer is not primarily a means of changing God’s mind; it is the place where our wills are brought into alignment with His.

Jesus’ example shows that true strength is found not in avoiding the cup but in trusting the Father who holds the cup and who also holds us.

Because Jesus drank the cup, the way of salvation stands open. Repentance and faith receive the finished work He accomplished.

The same Spirit who strengthened Him now indwells every believer, enabling us to face whatever cup the Father assigns with the same surrender and the same confident hope.

The Garden still speaks: The Father’s will is good, Jesus fully obeyed it, and through His obedience we are made free!

PRAISE THE LORD!

Let us Praise Him Daily!

A good way to learn to Praise God is to memorize the first 6 Verses of Psalms 148:

1 Praise the Lord, O heavens! Praise Him from the skies!

2 Praise Him, all His angels, all the armies of heaven.

3 Praise Him, sun and moon and all you twinkling stars.

4 Praise Him, skies above. Praise Him, vapors high above the clouds.

5 Let everything He has made give praise to Him. For He issued His command, and they came into being;

6 He established them forever and forever. His orders will never be revoked.

PLEASE read the last 6 Chapters of Psalms: 145-150 so that you will learn how to Praise God like David did!

Chapter 27 in Proverbs for today: (OCTOBER 27 (MT) (ESV)

  1. 27 Do not boast about tomorrow,
        for you do not know what a day may bring.
    2 Let another praise you, and not your own mouth;
        a stranger, and not your own lips.
    3 A stone is heavy, and sand is weighty,
        but a fool’s provocation is heavier than both.
    4 Wrath is cruel, anger is overwhelming,
        but who can stand before jealousy?
    5 Better is open rebuke
        than hidden love.
    6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend;
        profuse are the kisses of an enemy.
    7 One who is full loathes honey,
        but to one who is hungry everything bitter is sweet.
    8 Like a bird that strays from its nest
        is a man who strays from his home.
    9 Oil and perfume make the heart glad,
        and the sweetness of a friend comes from his earnest counsel.[a]
    10 Do not forsake your friend and your father’s friend,
        and do not go to your brother’s house in the day of your calamity.
    Better is a neighbor who is near
        than a brother who is far away.
    11 Be wise, my son, and make my heart glad,
        that I may answer him who reproaches me.
    12 The prudent sees danger and hides himself,
        but the simple go on and suffer for it.
    13 Take a man’s garment when he has put up security for a stranger,
        and hold it in pledge when he puts up security for an adulteress.[b]
    14 Whoever blesses his neighbor with a loud voice,
        rising early in the morning,
        will be counted as cursing.
    15 A continual dripping on a rainy day
        and a quarrelsome wife are alike;
    16 to restrain her is to restrain the wind
        or to grasp[c] oil in one’s right hand.
    17 Iron sharpens iron,
        and one man sharpens another.[d]
    18 Whoever tends a fig tree will eat its fruit,
        and he who guards his master will be honored.
    19 As in water face reflects face,
        so the heart of man reflects the man.
    20 Sheol and Abaddon are never satisfied,
        and never satisfied are the eyes of man.
    21 The crucible is for silver, and the furnace is for gold,
        and a man is tested by his praise.
    22 Crush a fool in a mortar with a pestle
        along with crushed grain,
        yet his folly will not depart from him.

    23 Know well the condition of your flocks,
        and give attention to your herds,
    24 for riches do not last forever;
        and does a crown endure to all generations?
    25 When the grass is gone and the new growth appears
        and the vegetation of the mountains is gathered,
    26 the lambs will provide your clothing,
        and the goats the price of a field.
    27 There will be enough goats’ milk for your food,
        for the food of your household
        and maintenance for your girls.

    2. Proverbs 27:13 Hebrew a foreign woman; a slight emendation yields (compare Vulgate; see also 20:16) foreigners

CHAPTER 22 ISAIAH for today:

(October 27 (RF) ESV)

22 The oracle concerning the valley of vision.

What do you mean that you have gone up,
    all of you, to the housetops,
2 you who are full of shoutings,
    tumultuous city, exultant town?
Your slain are not slain with the sword
    or dead in battle.
3 All your leaders have fled together;
    without the bow they were captured.
All of you who were found were captured,
    though they had fled far away.
4 Therefore I said:
“Look away from me;
    let me weep bitter tears;
do not labor to comfort me
    concerning the destruction of the daughter of my people.”

5 For the Lord God of hosts has a day
    of tumult and trampling and confusion
    in the valley of vision,
a battering down of walls
    and a shouting to the mountains.
6 And Elam bore the quiver
    with chariots and horsemen,
    and Kir uncovered the shield.
7 Your choicest valleys were full of chariots,
    and the horsemen took their stand at the gates.
8 He has taken away the covering of Judah.

In that day you looked to the weapons of the House of the Forest, 9 and you saw that the breaches of the city of David were many. You collected the waters of the lower pool, 10 and you counted the houses of Jerusalem, and you broke down the houses to fortify the wall. 11 You made a reservoir between the two walls for the water of the old pool. But you did not look to him who did it, or see him who planned it long ago.

12 In that day the Lord God of hosts
    called for weeping and mourning,
    for baldness and wearing sackcloth;
13 and behold, joy and gladness,
    killing oxen and slaughtering sheep,
    eating flesh and drinking wine.
“Let us eat and drink,
    for tomorrow we die.”
14 The Lord of hosts has revealed himself in my ears:
“Surely this iniquity will not be atoned for you until you die,”
    says the Lord God of hosts.

15 Thus says the Lord God of hosts, “Come, go to this steward, to Shebna, who is over the household, and say to him: 16 What have you to do here, and whom have you here, that you have cut out here a tomb for yourself, you who cut out a tomb on the height and carve a dwelling for yourself in the rock? 17 Behold, the Lord will hurl you away violently, O you strong man. He will seize firm hold on you 18 and whirl you around and around, and throw you like a ball into a wide land. There you shall die, and there shall be your glorious chariots, you shame of your master’s house. 19 I will thrust you from your office, and you will be pulled down from your station. 20 In that day I will call my servant Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, 21 and I will clothe him with your robe, and will bind your sash on him, and will commit your authority to his hand. And he shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and to the house of Judah. 22 And I will place on his shoulder the key of the house of David. He shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open. 23 And I will fasten him like a peg in a secure place, and he will become a throne of honor to his father’s house. 24 And they will hang on him the whole honor of his father’s house, the offspring and issue, every small vessel, from the cups to all the flagons. 25 In that day, declares the Lord of hosts, the peg that was fastened in a secure place will give way, and it will be cut down and fall, and the load that was on it will be cut off, for the Lord has spoken.”

Revelation 14

for today: (OCTOBER  27 (NN) ESV)

1

14 Then I looked, and behold, on Mount Zion stood the Lamb, and with him 144,000 who had his name and his Father’s name written on their foreheads. 2 And I heard a voice from heaven like the roar of many waters and like the sound of loud thunder. The voice I heard was like the sound of harpists playing on their harps, 3 and they were singing a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and before the elders. No one could learn that song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth. 4 It is these who have not defiled themselves with women, for they are virgins. It is these who follow the Lamb wherever he goes. These have been redeemed from mankind as firstfruits for God and the Lamb, 5 and in their mouth no lie was found, for they are blameless.

The Messages of the Three Angels

6 Then I saw another angel flying directly overhead, with an eternal gospel to proclaim to those who dwell on earth, to every nation and tribe and language and people. 7 And he said with a loud voice, “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come, and worship him who made heaven and earth, the sea and the springs of water.”

8 Another angel, a second, followed, saying, “Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great, she who made all nations drink the wine of the passion[a] of her sexual immorality.”

9 And another angel, a third, followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If anyone worships the beast and its image and receives a mark on his forehead or on his hand, 10 he also will drink the wine of God’s wrath, poured full strength into the cup of his anger, and he will be tormented with fire and sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. 11 And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever, and they have no rest, day or night, these worshipers of the beast and its image, and whoever receives the mark of its name.”

12 Here is a call for the endurance of the saints, those who keep the commandments of God and their faith in Jesus.[b]

13 And I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” “Blessed indeed,” says the Spirit, “that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow them!”

The Harvest of the Earth

14 Then I looked, and behold, a white cloud, and seated on the cloud one like a son of man, with a golden crown on his head, and a sharp sickle in his hand. 15 And another angel came out of the temple, calling with a loud voice to him who sat on the cloud, “Put in your sickle, and reap, for the hour to reap has come, for the harvest of the earth is fully ripe.” 16 So he who sat on the cloud swung his sickle across the earth, and the earth was reaped.

17 Then another angel came out of the temple in heaven, and he too had a sharp sickle. 18 And another angel came out from the altar, the angel who has authority over the fire, and he called with a loud voice to the one who had the sharp sickle, “Put in your sickle and gather the clusters from the vine of the earth, for its grapes are ripe.” 19 So the angel swung his sickle across the earth and gathered the grape harvest of the earth and threw it into the great winepress of the wrath of God. 20 And the winepress was trodden outside the city, and blood flowed from the winepress, as high as a horse’s bridle, for 1,600 stadia.[c]

  2. Revelation 14:12 Greek and the faith of Jesus
  3. Revelation 14:20 About 184 miles; a stadion was about 607 feet or 185 meters

Please Remember:

“CHRIST DIED FOR OUR SINS

AND ROSE FROM THE DEAD!”

The Steps to Salvation:

> Repent: Repentance means that you are turning away from sin to turn to Christ. It does NOT mean that you will be perfect.

> Believe/Receive: Salvation is through Faith in Jesus and by the Grace of God. Believing means putting your Faith in Jesus and receiving forgiveness of sin.

>Walk in the Newness of Life: Jesus died so that we might live. We walk in the Newness of Life being Born Again by His Blood.
