MAY 15

Are You Relying on Your Own Strength?

“Who is wise and understanding among you?

Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom.

But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth.

This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic.

For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there.

But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.”

James 3:13-17

Ponder This

I was driving down the road one day, and I saw a drunk man staggering along in disgrace.

I recognized him, so I stopped the car and I said “Son, get in.”

He got in and I drove him home.

His dad and his mother were embarrassed.

I started to leave, and the dad stopped me.

He said “My son is not the only drunk in the family.

I’m a drunk too.

I’d be such a hypocrite to tell him not to drink because I’m a drunkard.”

I said, “Why don’t you quit drinking?”

He said, “I just don’t have what it takes.”

My heart broke for him.

I said, “Imagine you were driving a team of wild horses, but they were getting away from you.

You couldn’t make them stop and you couldn’t rein them in, but sitting next to you there in the wagon was someone you knew could control them.

What would you do?”

He responded,

“That’s easy. I’d just turn the reigns over to him.”

And I said, “That’s the only thing for you to do.

Simply say, ‘Lord Jesus, I can’t.’”

Quit trying and start trusting.

Simply turn the reins over to Him because there is only One who can contain those wild horses.

He does not want to let them run wild, and He does not want to cripple them, but He will put that strength under His control and direction.

  • What is one thing you have struggled to put under God’s control?
  • Why do you think we often rely on our own strength to get things done instead of God’s?

Practice This

Pray and surrender to God something you have been trying to use your own strength to solve.

Also, spend some more extra time in God’s WORD today and consider how

it applies to your life and PLEASE start with regularly reading the last

DAILY BIBLE READING:

>1. Chapter for the DAY in Proverbs;

>2. PLUS: 1 NEW Chapter from the Old Testament AND

>3. PLUS: 1 NEW Chapter from the New Testament Daily:

Chapter 15 in Proverbs for today: (MAY 15) (ESV)

15 A soft answer turns away wrath,
    but a harsh word stirs up anger.
The tongue of the wise commends knowledge,
    but the mouths of fools pour out folly.
The eyes of the Lord are in every place,
    keeping watch on the evil and the good.
A gentle[a] tongue is a tree of life,
    but perverseness in it breaks the spirit.
A fool despises his father’s instruction,
    but whoever heeds reproof is prudent.
In the house of the righteous there is much treasure,
    but trouble befalls the income of the wicked.
The lips of the wise spread knowledge;
    not so the hearts of fools.[b]
The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord,
    but the prayer of the upright is acceptable to him.
The way of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord,
    but he loves him who pursues righteousness.
10 There is severe discipline for him who forsakes the way;
    whoever hates reproof will die.
11 Sheol and Abaddon lie open before the Lord;
    how much more the hearts of the children of man!
12 A scoffer does not like to be reproved;
    he will not go to the wise.
13 A glad heart makes a cheerful face,
    but by sorrow of heart the spirit is crushed.
14 The heart of him who has understanding seeks knowledge,
    but the mouths of fools feed on folly.
15 All the days of the afflicted are evil,
    but the cheerful of heart has a continual feast.
16 Better is a little with the fear of the Lord
    than great treasure and trouble with it.
17 Better is a dinner of herbs where love is
    than a fattened ox and hatred with it.
18 A hot-tempered man stirs up strife,
    but he who is slow to anger quiets contention.
19 The way of a sluggard is like a hedge of thorns,
    but the path of the upright is a level highway.
20 A wise son makes a glad father,
    but a foolish man despises his mother.
21 Folly is a joy to him who lacks sense,
    but a man of understanding walks straight ahead.
22 Without counsel plans fail,
    but with many advisers they succeed.
23 To make an apt answer is a joy to a man,
    and a word in season, how good it is!
24 The path of life leads upward for the prudent,
    that he may turn away from Sheol beneath.
25 The Lord tears down the house of the proud
    but maintains the widow’s boundaries.
26 The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the Lord,
    but gracious words are pure.
27 Whoever is greedy for unjust gain troubles his own household,
    but he who hates bribes will live.
28 The heart of the righteous ponders how to answer,
    but the mouth of the wicked pours out evil things.
29 The Lord is far from the wicked,
    but he hears the prayer of the righteous.
30 The light of the eyes rejoices the heart,
    and good news refreshes[c] the bones.
31 The ear that listens to life-giving reproof
    will dwell among the wise.
32 Whoever ignores instruction despises himself,
    but he who listens to reproof gains intelligence.
33 The fear of the Lord is instruction in wisdom,
    and humility comes before honor.

 Chapter 13 in Hosea for today: (MAY 15)(TR) ESV

13 When Ephraim spoke, there was trembling;
    he was exalted in Israel,
    but he incurred guilt through Baal and died.
And now they sin more and more,
    and make for themselves metal images,
idols skillfully made of their silver,
    all of them the work of craftsmen.
It is said of them,
    “Those who offer human sacrifice kiss calves!”
Therefore they shall be like the morning mist
    or like the dew that goes early away,
like the chaff that swirls from the threshing floor
    or like smoke from a window.

But I am the Lord your God
    from the land of Egypt;
you know no God but me,
    and besides me there is no savior.
It was I who knew you in the wilderness,
    in the land of drought;
but when they had grazed,[a] they became full,
    they were filled, and their heart was lifted up;
    therefore they forgot me.
So I am to them like a lion;
    like a leopard I will lurk beside the way.
I will fall upon them like a bear robbed of her cubs;
    I will tear open their breast,
and there I will devour them like a lion,
    as a wild beast would rip them open.

He destroys[b] you, O Israel,
    for you are against me, against your helper.
10 Where now is your king, to save you in all your cities?
    Where are all your rulers—
those of whom you said,
    “Give me a king and princes”?
11 I gave you a king in my anger,
    and I took him away in my wrath.

12 The iniquity of Ephraim is bound up;
    his sin is kept in store.
13 The pangs of childbirth come for him,
    but he is an unwise son,
for at the right time he does not present himself
    at the opening of the womb.

14 I shall ransom them from the power of Sheol;
    I shall redeem them from Death.[c]
O Death, where are your plagues?
    O Sheol, where is your sting?
    Compassion is hidden from my eyes.

15 Though he may flourish among his brothers,
    the east wind, the wind of the Lord, shall come,
    rising from the wilderness,
and his fountain shall dry up;
    his spring shall be parched;
it shall strip his treasury
    of every precious thing.
16 [d] Samaria shall bear her guilt,
    because she has rebelled against her God;
they shall fall by the sword;
    their little ones shall be dashed in pieces,
    and their pregnant women ripped open.

1 Corinthians Chapter 13 for today: (MAY 15)(TJ) ESV

13 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned,[a] but have not love, I gain nothing.

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;[b] it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away. 11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. 12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.

13 So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

Please Remember:

“CHRIST DIED FOR OUR SINS

AND ROSE FROM THE DEAD!”

HOW TO GET TO HEAVEN WHEN I DIE

John 3:16 makes it pretty clear: You have to Believe on Jesus Christ and you will be saved! No matter who you are! No matter what you have done wrong in your life, KNOW THAT GOD, JESUS AND THE HOLY SPIRIT LOVES YOU!

To “Believe” upon Jesus means that

1.) You Believe that Jesus is the Son of God, that He died on the Cross at Calvary as payment for ALL of your sins, was buried in a borrowed tomb and Arose from the dead on the 3rd Day we call Easter and accept Him as your Personal Savior by Faith;

2. You Repent of your sinful ways (Breaking God’s Laws in the 10 Commandments: a.) Worship only God, b.) Have no other gods before Him, c.) Don’t use His Name in vain, d.) Remember the Sabbath and keep it Holy, e.) Honor your Parents, f.) Don’t kill anyone, g.) Don’t commit adultery, h.) Don’t Steal, i.) Don’t lie about other people or yourself & j.) Don’t Covet anything that is your neighbors) and try to stop sinning;

3.) You give complete control of your life to Jesus Christ!

Doing these 3 things, the Holy Spirit will enter your Soul, you will be “Born Again” Spiritually and the Holy Spirit will enter your Soul, SEAL your position PERMANENTLY in Heaven and WRITE YOUR NAME IN THE “LAMB’S BOOK OF LIFE!” Again: See Revelation Chapter 20 Verse 15 to see why that is CRITICALLY important:

Revelation 20:15 – And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire”

The Steps to Salvation:

> Repent: Repentance means that you are turning away from sin to turn to Christ. It does NOT mean that you will be perfect.

> Believe/Receive: Salvation is through Faith in Jesus and by the Grace of God. Believing means putting your Faith in Jesus and receiving forgiveness of sin.

>Walk in the Newness of Life: Jesus died so that we might live. We walk in the Newness of Life being Born Again by His Blood.
